Presbyterian Women Soup Luncheon January 23, 2010
With an attendance of around forty women from the community, the Presbyterian Women served a luncheon consisting of broccoli and cheese soup, vegetable soup, cabbage and sausage soup, and a variety of homebaked breads. Dessert was apple streussel cheesecake squares. Table decorations were provided by Jean Sinkclear and were a variety of vintage kitchen collectibles displayed on yellow check cloth napkins. Pastor John Grimmett gave the blessing.
The program, "Tied To The Past", was given by Kris Elsbury of Madison. She started with the history of aprons which went back to medieval times with men being the first to actually wear aprons...such as blacksmiths. Kris showed the changing styles and uses through the years up to our present time. She presented a variety of aprons in her collection which included her first cross-stitch apron she made while she was in 4-H. She noted many women wearing aprons and asked everyone to share information about their apron or to tell about memories of aprons in their lifes. Many of the attendees did just that.
